Will Halo 3 Live Up To The Hype?

I have been a fan of Halo since the introduction of the original game for X-Box. As a shooter game fan going all the way back to Quake in the mid 1990's I enjoy the first person viewing and found the creativity in creating the different aliens amusing, particularly the little squealers I like to call them.

In the trailer for Halo3 we see it open with a view of what remains of New Mombasa and through the haze and destruction we can see Master Chief but the image is covered by shots of Cortana, I think. She is speaking barely understandable lines like "this is how your world ends".

It looks like Master Chief has the MA5B Assault Rifle from Halo 1, his armor looks a bit different, Bungie company officials aren't confirming or denying much of anything. We have seen shots that show the assault rifle, a new alien weapon and a new alien, the M90 shotgun, and the Covenant beam rifle, which I loved. That was my favorite in Halo 2 for sniping aliens long range.

As I mentioned above it appears that Halo 3 takes place back on Earth which has been completed overrun and is now being controlled by the Covenant. In the teaser we see Covenant ships above a large excavation that Master Chief is looking into.

Some of the insider information that has been released is saying that the detail in the graphics will be incredible, such as being able to see the difference in Master Chief's Armor and his rubber undersuit and that you will be able to see the reflection of whatever is in front of him in his visor if you zoom in close.

One rumor that has been quelled is that of release dates for Halo 3 and the much anticipated Halo movie which is being directed by Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame. It is also being hinted that contrary to what has been published to date, this may not be the end of the Halo games.

The game engine has reportedly seen a major upgrade and graphics are much better. They have also made it easier to create custom games for multiplayer modes. I guess it all remains to be seen, but I can't wait for both, the release of the game and the movie. The game will be the must have game of the year as far as I am concerned and if Jackson pulls off the same kind of recreation of Halo that he did for Tolkien's Lord of the Rings we are all in for a treat.
